(CFI, Shanghai, March 15, 2006) China Market Pulp Conference 2006, organized by C.F.I. Consulting Ltd. (CFI) & China Forest & Paper Executive Club (CFPEC), was held in Shanghai Convention Centre from March 7-8, 2006. Over 250 participates representing global pulp suppliers, agents & traders, users and other parties related to the pulp and paper industry attended the conference.

With more and more pulp imported by China to feed its fast growing paper industry, China has become the world number 1 pulp buyer. According to the custom statistics, China totally imported 7.59 million tons of pulp in 2005, 3.7% more than 2004 and the lowest increase rate since 2000. It is well believed that China will keep buying more pulp in the future. However, many questions and concerns over China's future pulp demand are also frequently asked by the industry players. Is China going to buy less pulp outside and instead make pulp domestically by local forest and/or imported wood chips in the future? What strategies pulp suppliers should take to play the game with their Chinese customers? Is the strategy of "forest-pulp-paper integration" is successful in China?......

There were 15 quality speakers spoke at the one day and half conference. The topics cover fairly wide from China's macro-economy development in 2006 to the market pulp trend and to the new risk management tools in pulp procurement. They also answered questions raised by the attendees concerning the industry. To show their support to this important industry event, seven enterprises sponsored the symposium including APP, Chenming Paper, Sun Paper, Koch Pulp & Paper Trading, Tiger Forest & Paper, CITTC and EMGE. The after meeting survey showed this conference was warmly welcome by the attendees. According to CFI, they will hold this conference once a year in the future, but more content like secondary fiber etc. may be added.
